to generate awareness, promote education, and advocate for quality treatment of Problem Gambling in the state of Nevada.

OUR GOALS

– providing first-contact crisis intervention and referral to treatment and community resources for problem gamblers and their families.

– creating public awareness to prevent the onset and progression of problem gambling

– promoting education on problem gambling in public and professional forums

– training of treatment professionals to effectively identify and treat the disorder of pathological gambling

– reducing and/or preventing problem gambling among children and adolescents

OUR PURPOSE

to develop effective programs and services which will accomplish each of these goals and meet the needs of our citizens and communities.

The Nevada Council on Problem Gambling is a non-profit corporation and all contributions are tax deductible as provided by Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service code.

The Council is completely supported by voluntary contributions from individuals and businesses throughout the state of Nevada.

P R O G R A M S , S E R V I C E S

SPEAKERS BUREAU

The Council provides speakers on a wide range of topics related to Problem Gambling for community groups, conferences, social service agencies, etc. Our speakers volunteer their time and expertise to educate the public, while promoting the mission of the Council.

MEDIA & PUBLICATIONS

The Council works together with the print and broadcast media to provide accurate and appropriate information and commentary on and issues related to problem gambling.

LITERATURE DISTRIBUTIONS

The Council disseminates information through the creation and distribution of pamphlets, brochures and informational packets at employee health fairs, professional conferences and public seminars.

PROFESSIONAL TRAINING

The Council participates in professional training programs to provide information and resources on problem gambling and to encourage development of company policies and programs to address this issue in the workplace.

The Council places the highest priority on providing our citizens direct access to information and assistance, when problem gambling becomes a personal concern. This service is provided through our 24 hour Problem Gamblers HelpLine. Trained HelpLine Specialists respond with compassion and concern, providing supportive intervention, information, and referral assistance to persons in need. Resource information is continually updated to ensure the most accurate and effective referrals possible. In addition to meeting the critical needs of the caller, HelpLine Specialists are trained to gather data for statistical reporting.

CERTIFICATION TRAINING FOR COMPULSIVE GAMBLING COUNSELORS

The Council has developed a nationally approved 21 hour curriculum to train treatment professionals to assess and treat pathological gamblers. This training will fulfill part of the requirements for becoming a Nationally Certified Gambling Counselor, and will help to increase the quality of care available for problem gamblers in our state.
